Medtronic Octopus

The Medtronic Octopus is a device that facilitates and assists in off-pump cardiac operations. The clamp is attached to the side of the thoracic retractors and the articulated arm is used to position a dual vacuum system over the heart which, once the suction is turned on, allows the heart to be operated on precisely whilst still beating. I saw one in use during my work experience at The London Chest Hospital and it is amazingly effective.
